When we began this journey, we didn’t know much about home educating. The one thing we were sure was that God was leading us here, and that was all we needed to proceed.
We set about with some Christian-based workbooks, a math program, a reading program, and a desk. Very eager to be doing “school at home,” we never questioned the drill until I heard Carole Joy Seid at a homeschool seminar. About the same time, I got introduced to Charlotte Mason. Miss Mason truly ushered a paradigm shift in my view of education. As we started implementing her educational philosophy, we discovered how learning could be such an adventure shared by parents and children. Oh, the possibilities!
Though we could name a few good reasons why we Want to homeschool, it is by ONE reason that we Decided to: It is our calling. As their parents.
And so everyday, we thank God that even in the education of our children, we can focus on eternity. The day-to-day aspects of our home education remain a work in progress. God continues to show us ways to grow on. To let go. To persevere. To focus. To make a difference.
Ultimately, it is about being faithful to the calling. Regardless of what everyone else is doing. It comes down to developing a biblical worldview that the children can take with them in continuing the journey. As we earnestly desire to train our children up in the way they should go, we’d realize how challenging that is, when all day they are being influenced and molded by heathens. (And by that, I am referring to a system that denies the existence/sovereignty of God, NOT the individual teachers.) And though a Christian institution is esteemed a better choice, I am truly persuaded that we could not find anyone who would love, train up, and disciple our children the way we parents could, as the Word of God clearly states that as our mandate.
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. “ -Deut. 6: 6-8
Hi, I like the way you explained why you homeschool. I homeschool too, but I have not come up with a post of why I homeschool, yet. I think I would write something like yours.
